LNG Supply Chains Adapt with Ship-to-Ship Transfers Outside Hormuz

Continued disruption around the Strait of Hormuz is prompting changes in how some LNG cargoes are being moved.

Several liquefied natural gas cargoes originating in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates were recently transferred ship-to-ship outside the Strait before continuing toward destinations in Asia.

These types of operational workarounds can help keep cargo moving, but they may also introduce additional handling, documentation, insurance, timing and cost considerations.

For companies moving cargo through geopolitically sensitive regions, routing should be evaluated at the shipment level. Carrier acceptance, cargo requirements, insurance conditions and the actual transportation plan should all be confirmed before commitments are made.
